Universal Aquatics attended Pondemonium in 2014 at the McCannon Farm in Sugar Grove, IL to create a soothing, unique, sensory environment for developmentally disabled individuals. The property’s existing pond was in desperate need of proper circulation and a filtration system in order to increase water quality and decrease the time-consuming maintenance of debris and algae removal.

Our project consisted of installing an intake bay to house submersible pumps and pump vaults, thereby acting as a skimmer system to collect floating debris. Several pumps distributed the water to strategic locations for maximum circulation while a large, constructed wetland filter handled excess nutrients in the pond, along with a series of circulation jets.

We built a dramatic waterfall into a large berm along the back of the pond, creating a spectacular backdrop for the pavilion and seating areas. In addition, we added several areas of rock outcroppings along the shoreline which added visual interest to the pond while creating viewing areas for the farm’s visitors.

In total, over 100 tons of weathered limestone were added to the feature along with a pumping capacity of 30,000 GPH to create the desired effects.

The McCannon Farm supports Farm Friends, a non-profit organization, by raising funds through hosting wedding receptions and other events. This pond transformation will become the centerpiece for all of their events and programs.
